This music video was the start of the video age. On the top of the pops if you had the no. 1 single you would have to appear on top of the pops each time. Now queen didn't want to keep appearing on top of the pops as they were no.1 for a number of weeks so that produced a music video which was creative in the sense that it had all four members of queen, and they were singing the song. The effects included them normally then you see multiple copies of them. It amazed people as this was the first time it was done.
#3. A-ha/ Take on Me/ 1985
The song by a-ha take on me was released weeks before the video came out. This song was a huge hit so they decided to make a video for it. This was an expensive video as it was done partly in animaiton. This also amazed people when you see the mixture of animation and real life together. There was one segment where we see the human woman and the animated a-ha leader then the camera changes position and then we see the opposite (Animated woman and the real life man) this did throw people and it amazed them. They were confused with how they did this. This was one of the complex things to do, up till today it still amazes people.
#2. Peter Gabriel/ Sledgehammer/ 1986
This was another animation video but a still animation video. This video took a long time because a lot of things were done and they had to be moved little at a time to create the effect of it moving by itself.
#1. Michael Jackson/ Thriller/ 1983
Michael Jackson thriller was one of the best yet most expensive video ever made. The horror based music video made it one of the best piece of work ever made. Channel 4 had this policy in which you could not watch anything scary until after 9, The airing of the music video was done on a friday at midnight. The viewing on that day was huge. Everyone stayed up just to watch that music video. In the 1980s there were only 4 channels. If you had missed the music video it would have been replayed at a later point the following week. This was why the people watched it at once. The idea from this video came from the movie, american warewolf. Michael was always interested in metamorphosis and transformation so he implemented it on his video.
