In a recent post I included information about Copy right, Which in turn helps me decide where i should get my music from. I decided to go with Indie genre of music because I feel it is one of the genres where you can create imagery to go along with the music. Two sites which I would be looking at would be:
Both these websites have variety which is good for browsing for the right and effective music to use. The sites both have split genres which makes it easy for me to navigate through the site.
As you can see from the video, the editing was not up to scratch. It went well the way I familiarised myself with some of the tools however I did have lip sync which was not perfectly aligned and was a little out. Next time I would make sure the Michael sings it more than 5 times maybe 6 to ensure he is comfortable with the song. Also I would make sure to align the lip syncing with the music. Another effective thing would be to have different shots as i only had the one shot of both of them sitting on the bench.
In order to make a successful music video i had to analyse other videos. I looked at two music videos made by students; BRMC - Spread Love and The Buttons - "Anyone Else But you". I looked at the positive and negatives of both.
Making and editing the preliminary task was a way in getting use to editing a music video in a easy way than chopping it up and trying to fit it together. To get the right lip sync, i made sure the music was played out loud and made sure that the person in the music video sings the song out loud rather than mime. I also made sure they sung more than twice, to make the person get the feel for the music. As they gain confidence in singing the song, they would get the lip sync accurate. I used a hd camera to make my music video unlike when making my thriller which i only used a standard camcorder.
Post Production
There were various tools on final cut in which i used to make this music video. One of the main tools i used was the mountain tool. This tool allowed me to toggle the clip overlays. So when i had one person singing something and i had to switch it to someone else singing instead of having to chop up the clip and trying to line it up, i all i have to do is select the pen tool and add two dotts then try to move it accordingly.
I used markers by pressing the 'M' key on the keyboard and it allowed me to place a maker. I used the marker first for when Elton John sings and then i placed a marker for where Michael lip syncs instead of having to chop up my clips and trying to move it to the right place, after setting the marker all I have to do is move the clip and if Michael has been singing properly it would be synced up correctly and perfectly.
Began as a runner (entry level jobs to enter the media institute)
worked for blink productions
new freelance for OB management
after working as a runner he graduated to Assistant Director (A.D.) where he would manage the video shoots.
He signed to Academy - who are the biggest music video production company.
He then moved and worked for 'between the eyes' and now works mainly for pulse.
He now began to make adverts which generally have a far higher budget and production values which allows creative freedom. The reason he began to do adverts was to try and get his name out there as more people would be able to see his videos. An example of his advert was L'Oreal 'dare to be different'.
At his busiest, Emil has made 24 music videos in one year.
when he began shooting videos for independent labels the budget would be as low as £5,000 - £10,000.
His most expensive video to date has been for the artist Jessie J and the budget for the film was £160,000.
Emil's first budget was for the band Kid British and their track Our House
The budget for that music video was £20,000
The location was set in Manchester
The cast involved local people
1 day for the filming
2/3 days for the editing
10 days pre-planning
demonstrates the very tight timescale involved.

Jose Maria Morales is Executive Vice President of the American Federation of Cinematoraphic and Audiovisual Producer (FIPCA). And was a member of the jury of the official International Film Fetsival Berlin 2010.
Used award-winning short films as a 'calling card' to get a foot in the door with video production production company factory films
Began by shooting three vary low budget music video - cost about £5,000 to make each.
He had to show his films to a lot of editors to get hired
He had a process of how the music video works:
A 'commissioner' from a record label sends a track 5-10 would do a plan/ story bored
This stage of planning is unpaid
The director who is chosen for the best concept is then contacted to make the video
Only then is the director is then paid
As can be seen for many directors in the business, it is a precious existence where their livelihood is dependant on each commission
Jamie Thraves submitted treatments for his two best known videos and each was accepted. The two videos were:
1. Radiohead - Just
This music video budget was £100,000
It was shot in 3 days
2. Coldplay - The scientist
The line that inspired the concept was " Lets go back to the start"
the budget of the film was £200,000
it was shot in 3 days
Jamie thraves most recent music video was 'song for lisa' by Japanese Pop-stars
Currently videos cost about £20,000. Shooting time is 3 days maximum.
Jamie has used the music videos as his way to get into the film business. He produced shot films in his music videos.
Jamie's Top tip
Use the lyrics but try not to be to literal (don't put a picture of every line in there)
Most importantly - go with the emotion of the lyrics (if the song is about heartbreak and you could hear that the song is aggressive you wouldn't have a scene where it is all cute and "lovey-dovey"
