Lead Singer Trial (Michael)
Due to the lack of people available to be in the music video, we had to carry out a trial to see if someone else (Michael) could be in the music video. The trial was successful. Michael lip synced correctly and he had the right costume. We used a tripod to simulate the guitar prop, and michael looked the part. Which is why he is the chosen lead singer. There were some things which I needed to make sure that it is not present in the actual video. One of the main things is the lighting. As you can see I can only see half of Michael's face. To prevent this I would have him standing directly under the right light or make sure I gave the right shade of light. Another thing that I need to make sure about is the different posters on the wall. I need to position the camera properly, even though I couldn't see it in the camera window, it some how ended up in the final video. If I positioned the camera properly, I would be able to cut them out. I can also make sure its not on the wall.

First day of filming
For our first day of filming, due to unavailability of people/actors and the place of where we were going to film (Media Classroom). We decided to film some scenery, we filmed a few cars driving by. We took more than one take to decide which car we wanted to be in the car. This is filler to our video.

There are a few problems we could face during the filming process of our music video, and explaining how we can overcome these issues. here are some of the problems we cold face:

Proposal as to how to expand/ broaden audience/ increase sales
Looking at some of the most successful music videos, they all seem to be on all the available music videos players. The reason for this is because they reach out to a lot of places and it is easily available. Youtube has been one of the most successful place for a music video to be uploaded. At a time music videos were only available on music T.V. channels like, MTV. Nowadays, smart phones are present with youtube apps. This makes it more available to everyone as they are all online and can access it easily. To appeal to a variety of audiences you have to make t the music video available to every place that allows music videos to be seen.

Major Issues:
Filming
at:
We
would be filming at Robert clack music studio as our stage for the band
Another
place we would be filming at is at Michael mature house for the scene with
the argument with the guy and his female. A further location would be a café. This will be the scene
when the guy sees his girl friend with another male.
Solutions:
There are particular things in which my group and I should take when
going out to film. If we were going to film at the side of the road, a
solution would be that we should not film on the road. Before using the café and
filming, we would need to have permission. We also need to make sure that the area is safe if it wasn’t
we would make sure that we have contact to parents and on site services.

Analysis of Audience research - Survey monkey Analysis
From this analysis of the survey monkey research data, i can see that young people watch music videos mostly on youtube.
The majority of people were make that watch music videos. Some of the music videos that are peoples favourites were indie. There are a range of things that people like in music videos.
Analysis of student digipak/ Magazine advert/ Video Combination
Analysing student work would help me in my decisions to make my own digipak. This digipak is a well constructed digipak. There is a theme to this, it seems to be an autumn feel to this album and it seems to be country. The orange leaves are orange to suggest the fall. There are wood and trees which makes this autumn feel. If you were to fold up the digipak the artist is on the inside which is what most digipaks do so that it seems like you are opening up the cd into the artist. There is a track listing on the back of the digipak for more songs on the cd. There is also a barcode located on this page.
This Magazine advert is a well constructed piece of work. The magazine advert have ratings and quotes from the guardian. This is useful as it tells the people how goods the album actually is. At the bottom of the magazine advert we see the release date and either side of it we see the store where the audience could buy it. The main focus of this magazine advert is the red which is present on the lips. This could be done for two reasons one of them being the fact that it is to do with lip therapy which links to the therapy of the new album. This can also link to Love which could be the theme of this album.

What resources you will need (Include actors, Props, setting)
What makes a good music video is the Mise-en-scene. The props and the outfits are the things that makes the music video what it is. For our music video i thought hard about the props we would need. I listened to the music and i identified some instrumentals that would make the music videos convincing. The instruments used are guitars and drums. Analysing more and more indie music videos, their basic structure and props are the instruments; Which is why i would be using guitars and drums as my props. I would also be using a microphone. For typical indie videos they are normally in skinny jeans and or in suits normally slim fitted.

Song Lyrics
Verse 1;
Every time that you're in reach
i slip up, and you slip away from me
theres a lesson here to teach
seem like you've always got something to say
Chorus;
with all i've done, you lied to me
count me from reality
won't you just let go cause i cant breathe
im gonna soon make you a saint,
'cause in my eyes its just too late
won't you just let go cause i cant breathe
Verse 2;
seems like we've been living lies
morning dreams just come and pass me by
wipe the mud from out my eyes
were still living in a compromise
so just stop complaining
i dont need to say
everything still changing coz you knew that anyway
you can do much better, and i can't do much worse
this lie isn't bad, this is my first

Chosen Artist Profile
Silent sundays
About
The artist chosen is made up of Dave O'Leary - Vocals/Rhythm Guitar
Tom Harris - Lead Guitar/ Backing Vocals
Chris Tracey - Bass Guitar
Lee Dainty - Drums & Percussion
The band formed in mid 2006 after trying many different line-ups until we found a comfortable line-up and an always positive atmosphere.
We are a 4-Piece band, and have a wide variety in the styles of music that we play. We play a mixture of covers and originals which range between punk, rock and indie. With a Lead guitarist and Drummer into some of the more heavier genres, our music includes fast solos, fast rhythms, Strong and rhythmic drumming and some awesome fills. Also on the lighter side, the band has a bassist and rhythm guitarist into lighter, more indie style music, giving songs a nice melodic feeling with some chords new to the guitaring world, fast chord changes, funky bass riffs and clever chord structures. With Dave as our lead vocalist and Tray and Tom as back-up vocalists, our vocal range is almost endless, so we like to include clever and melodic vocal parts, with some strong vocal parts for all 3 of the vocalists. Asking for Permission
In order to get the music for the my music video, i had to ask
We are A-Level students at Robert Clack School in East London, and we would like to request permission to use you music. The track we wish to use is silent serenade. We would very much appreciate if you would give us the permission to do so as it is for our media project to create a music video from an artist and genre of your choice.
Thank you.

Audience Research - Vox Pops [Like all good media...]
Like all good media our Vox Pops will be staged in a classroom.
The questions that would be asked are:
The questions that would be asked are:
- Do you watch music Videos?
- What is your favourite music video?
- What do you like about music videos?
- what makes a great music video?
- whee do you watch music videos?
Audience Research - Vox Pops
What are vox pops?
- Vox populi is latin for voice of the people.
- It usually is the interviewees are shown in public places, and are supposed to be giving spontaneous opinions in a chance encounter.
- Vox pops are often used on news programmes to show 'balance'
- 'Opinions are divided on the streets...'
- Each person is asked the same question, the aim is to get a variety of answers and opinions on any given subject.
- Journalists are usually instructed to approach a wide range of people to get varied answers from different points of view.
Example of vox pop:
As we can see, there is no interviewer he is behind the camera or to the side of the camera. We always see the interviewee looking in one direction never at the camera with the background behind them.

Audience Research - SurveyMonkey
In order to get my music video out there, i would have to do some audience research. http://www.surveymonkey.com/ is a good site for this because you are able to to find out the age range of people that watch music videos and where they watch it. This could help for when you want to get the most views out of people.

The Media Institution
The music institution is made up of different music record labels. A record label is a brand and a trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. Often, a record label is also a company that manages such brands and trademarks; coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos; conducts talent scouting and development of new artists ("artists and repertoire" or "A&R"); and maintains contracts with recording artists and their managers. The term "record label" derives from the circular label in the center of a vinyl record which prominently displays the manufacturer's name, along with other information. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_label)
There are major record labels within them small independent labels some of the famous record are:
- Sony Music
- EMI
- EMI changed into Universal Music group
- Warner Music Group
These record labels are as of 2012 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_label)

Music To Select - Unsigned.com, Newsgrounds.com
In a recent post I included information about Copy right, Which in turn helps me decide where i should get my music from. I decided to go with Indie genre of music because I feel it is one of the genres where you can create imagery to go along with the music. Two sites which I would be looking at would be:
Both these websites have variety which is good for browsing for the right and effective music to use. The sites both have split genres which makes it easy for me to navigate through the site.

What goes on a digipak & Magazine?
A digipk is essentially the cover of the album. There are a few things that covers this that are:
- Name of the artist and album
- Track List
- Barcode
- Record company logo/ Information
- Disk impression & separate disc design
- Six panels
- Spine - with the name of artist/ album
- Image of the artist is not compulsory on the outside but a good idea to have on the inside.
- Name of the artist and album
- Date of release
- Where it is available to buy
- Record company information
- Quotes/Reviews

Preliminary Task - The Video
Here is the video:
Conclusion
Conclusion
As you can see from the video, the editing was not up to scratch. It went well the way I familiarised myself with some of the tools however I did have lip sync which was not perfectly aligned and was a little out. Next time I would make sure the Michael sings it more than 5 times maybe 6 to ensure he is comfortable with the song. Also I would make sure to align the lip syncing with the music. Another effective thing would be to have different shots as i only had the one shot of both of them sitting on the bench.
Case Study 2 - Emil Nava Part. 2
Here are some of Emil Nava's directed music videos:
Paloma Faith '30 Minute Love Affair'
Client: Sony
Paloma Faith 'Picking up the pieces'
Client: Sony
Cost: £80,000
Ed Sheeran 'Lego House'
Client: Atlantic
Jessie J 'Do it Like a dude'
Client: Island
Rita Ora 'RIP'
Client: Roc Nation
Ed Sheeran 'You Need Me'
Client: Atlantic
Cost: £35,000
Jessie J 'Price Tag'
Client: Island
Emil's Top Tips
- Use Extreme close up on faces wherever possible
- Do not shoot whole video in medium shot/ long shot
- example - Sinead O' Connor - Nothing compares 2U
Video Selection
In order to make a successful music video i had to analyse other videos. I looked at two music videos made by students; BRMC - Spread Love and The Buttons - "Anyone Else But you". I looked at the positive and negatives of both.

A2 Preliminary Task - What i did
Preliminary Task

Production Phase
Making and editing the preliminary task was a way in getting use to editing a music video in a easy way than chopping it up and trying to fit it together. To get the right lip sync, i made sure the music was played out loud and made sure that the person in the music video sings the song out loud rather than mime. I also made sure they sung more than twice, to make the person get the feel for the music. As they gain confidence in singing the song, they would get the lip sync accurate. I used a hd camera to make my music video unlike when making my thriller which i only used a standard camcorder.
Post Production
There were various tools on final cut in which i used to make this music video. One of the main tools i used was the mountain tool. This tool allowed me to toggle the clip overlays. So when i had one person singing something and i had to switch it to someone else singing instead of having to chop up the clip and trying to line it up, i all i have to do is select the pen tool and add two dotts then try to move it accordingly.

I used markers by pressing the 'M' key on the keyboard and it allowed me to place a maker. I used the marker first for when Elton John sings and then i placed a marker for where Michael lip syncs instead of having to chop up my clips and trying to move it to the right place, after setting the marker all I have to do is move the clip and if Michael has been singing properly it would be synced up correctly and perfectly.

Case Study 2 - Emil Nava
Director - Emil Nava
- Began as a runner (entry level jobs to enter the media institute)
- worked for blink productions
- new freelance for OB management
- after working as a runner he graduated to Assistant Director (A.D.) where he would manage the video shoots.
- He signed to Academy - who are the biggest music video production company.
- He then moved and worked for 'between the eyes' and now works mainly for pulse.
- He now began to make adverts which generally have a far higher budget and production values which allows creative freedom. The reason he began to do adverts was to try and get his name out there as more people would be able to see his videos. An example of his advert was L'Oreal 'dare to be different'.
- At his busiest, Emil has made 24 music videos in one year.
- when he began shooting videos for independent labels the budget would be as low as £5,000 - £10,000.
- His most expensive video to date has been for the artist Jessie J and the budget for the film was £160,000.
Emil's first budget was for the band Kid British and their track Our House
- The budget for that music video was £20,000
- The location was set in Manchester
- The cast involved local people
- 1 day for the filming
- 2/3 days for the editing
- 10 days pre-planning
- demonstrates the very tight timescale involved.
OB Management work as agents for music videos directors
Aim:
- Nurture talent
- work with production companies
- work with record labels
- Match the right director to the right artist.
Some of the production companies that OB worked with are:
- Pulse films - Established in 2005 by Thomas Benski and Marisa Clifford, our founding goal was to have a fluid approach to production, with all four of our award winning departments, TV, Music, Film, and Advertising, working together (http://www.pulsefilms.com/about-contact/)
- Agile Films - Based in the heart of Shoreditch, London, Agile Films has been producing award-winning commercials, music videos, digital, short and long form projects since its inception in 205.(http://www.agilefilms.com/profile)
- Wanda - Born as Wanda Films film production and distribution company in 1992. Founded by Jose Maria Morales, Soon became a partner his brother Michael and Wanda Vision created in 1997 with Ricardo Evole. The company has become almost 20 years in a benchmark of quality cinema Latin America and Europe. Jose Maria Morales is Executive Vice President of the American Federation of Cinematoraphic and Audiovisual Producer (FIPCA). And was a member of the jury of the official International Film Fetsival Berlin 2010.
